Bio

Matthew Naizer is from Houston, TX where he began learning guitar in the third grade. His love for guitar grew throughout middle school and much more so in high school when he was introduced to classical guitar. In his years at Bellaire High School, under the teaching of Mark Moore, he competed in three UIL Solo and Ensemble competitions, receiving the highest score at regionals for a freshman, and 3 Silver Medals as a junior and senior for two solos and one ensemble piece. Preparing for the junior year UIL competition, Matthew, among other students, played for Adam Holzman in a master class. Following his graduation from Bellaire High School in 2016, Matthew went on to study with Professor Mark Cruz at Texas State University where he would eventually earn his Bachelor of Music Performance in the Spring of 2020. During his time at Texas State, Matthew performed in numerous ensembles, gave two solo recitals, and played for Isaac Bustos in a master class. Following his graduation from Texas State, Matthew now resides in Fort Worth with his wife, cat, and new baby girl, Nekoda. Here, he studies with Dr. Will Douglas at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as he pursues his Master of Music in Church Music with a Concentration in Classical Guitar Performance and Pedagogy. Once Matthew completes his Graduate Program at SWBTS, he plans to enter into the Doctoral program at SWBTS to continue his studies in Guitar Performance and Pedagogy in order to eventual teach at the university level and establish his own studio.
