Bio
April Montez Seals embarked on her musical journey with undergraduate studies in guitar performance at Collin College under the tutelage of Dr. Fernand Vera. Her talent and dedication were recognized in 2015 when she was awarded the prestigious M. Petree Music Memorial Scholarship, enabling her to transfer to Oklahoma City University. There, April earned her Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in guitar performance in 2017, benefiting from the instruction of Dr. Lynn McGrath, Dr. Stephen Lochbaum, and Matthew Denman. Building upon this foundation, she served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant to Dr. Stephen Mattingly at the University of Louisville, culminating in the completion of her Master of Music degree in the spring of 2020. April's achievements extend to the competitive stage, where she has garnered recognition at numerous festivals and competitions, including first prize at the Brownsville Guitar Festival in 2016 and awards and honors from the Guitar Foundation of America Symposium, Mountain View Competition, Collin College Competitions, and the Hill Country International Ensemble Contests. Currently, April is continuing her academic pursuits as a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas.
